i saw samantha power speak tonight at politics and prose about her new book – “Chasing the Flame: Sergio Vieira de Mello and the Fight to Save the World”. The book chronicles the amazing life and tragic death of one of the united nation’s most cherished activist in his service in Iraq.
great speech, had to leave during the q and a to run to rock and roll hotel.
today i saw senator obama receive the endorsement of three kennedys at american university.
first time i’ve really been to a big publicity washington event. couldn’t have been happier with the experience.
last night i saw the dc premiere of persepolis as part of the reel progress series from the center for american progress.
the animated film from marjane satrapi’s graphic novels was an insightful look at past 30 years of iranian history through the eyes of a troubled yet increadbly humorous girl. this film offers a education just as compelling as its story. a must see.
today i embark on a (quasi) road trip. me and a copilot are heading out of the district this afternoon and will end up in oxford, mississippi on friday afternoon. why you ask? on the surface, to take in ole’ miss, mingle at the grove, and catch the football game against the number one team in the country, the lsu tigers. aside from that, i’ve always wanted to experience the true southern college life. sure, i spent four years in north carolina for undergrad, but ole’ miss is a bit different. ask anyone who’s been.
along the way, there will be pitstops at james madison university (picking up a third passanger), roanoke college (swapping cars), and wake forest university (staying the night and catching up with the people i left six months ago).
hope y’all enjoy the weekend, i’m sure as hell going to enjoy mine.
the american ladies bowed out of the women’s world cup earlier this morning to brazil, thanks to two goals from the best female player in the world – marta. do yourself a favor and watch her second goal (fourth of the match). ronaldinho would be proud to call that his own.
there’s not much else to say here… most fun i’ve ever had at a concert.
simply incredible. oh yeah, dancing on stage the entire night and hanging with Greg Gillis isn’t too bad either.
i’m still in shock at how amazing last night was. this is why i love music.
– Limits proposed on fast-food restaurants
– Derek from Good Weather for Airstrikes is back to posting and the world is a much better place now because of it
– I saw Dr. Strangelove for the first time last night – Kubrick is brilliant
– Great post today from Zach Klein
– Hipster Olympics sent from Judd
– After spending a weekend back at Wake, it’s fair to say I can’t articulate how much I miss college
